Indications:
constipation
pregnancy constipation

Irritable Bowel syndrome (IBS)
PHARMACOLOGIC ACTIONS
The therapeutic effect of psyllium which is a bulk-forming herbal laxative is mediated by mucilaginous swelling that occurs in the seed husks. This swelling due to the absorption of water leads to an increase in the feces volume and therefore in bowel movements and ultimately facilitates defecation.
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Each sachet contains 4.2 g psyllium seeds and 2.8 g dextrose.
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
It is recommended that adults should take psyllium granule once or three times a day, one sachet each time, with a glass of water, preferably fruit juice or milk after proper stirring of the mixture.
For 6-12 year old children, half of the adult dosage is recommended.
Dosage can be adjusted based on a patient’s needs.
Taking several glasses of water (preferably 2 glasses of water with each sachet) is also recommended.
INTERACTIONS
Co-administration of psyllium may cause a reduction in the absorption of some minerals, vitamin B12, cardiac glycosides and coumarin derivatives.
The concurrent use of psyllium with lithium salts leads to a decrease in the plasma level of lithium and also a stoppage in lithium absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.
Psyllium may also cause a reduction in the absorption rate and amount
ADVERSE REACTIONS
At the beginning of the treatment (specifically if taken in a large amount), psyllium granule may cause temporary abdominal bloating and heaviness in patients which can easily be removed by using more water.
Allergic reactions have very infrequently been reported.
Too much use of psyllium may cause esophagus and bowel obstruction (usually due to the low consumption of liquids). Therefore, it is recommended that it should be taken with an adequate amount of water.
CONTRAINDICATIONS & PRECAUTIONS
In the case of appendicitis or its symptoms, rectal bleeding with unknown reason, wounds and adhesions in some parts of the digestive system, intestinal pains, nausea, vomiting, hypersensitive allergy to the drug, cardiac congestive insufficiency, hypertension and diabetes, psyllium granule is forbidden to be used.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Psyllium granule can safely be taken by pregnant and breastfeeding women.
TIPS
In treating constipation, more physical activity and a high-fiber diet containing salads, olive oil and fruit are recommended.
Keep out of the reach of children.
STORAGE
Keep it in a dry and cool place.
